“Stop teaching your children slangs if they are not born in America” Yaa Pono

Ghanaian musician, Yaa Pono has adviced parents to desist from forcing their children to speak foreign languages and rather focus on their native one.

It’s an open secret most parents prefer to hear their children do well in English Language, preferably American accents rather than their native language.

Some parents even go to the length of banning their children from speaking their native languages at home. a rule that is punishable by the parents when broken.

Fair to say Yaa Pono isn’t happy about such acts from certain parents as he made it known in a post stressing that it’s not compulsory to have an American accent hence if you ain’t given birth to over there, there’s no need to try speaking like them.

“STOP TEACHING YOUR KOOBI CHILDREN SLANGS IF THEY ARE NOT BORN IN AMERICA…. TEACH THEM THEIR LANGUAGE… YANKEE NO BE BYFORCE” Pono wrote on Twitter.

Ashanti NPP chairman awarded US$45 million cocoa roads contract weeks to election

Documents emanating from government circles reveal the Ashanti Regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been awarded a juicy contract valued at US$45 million by the COCOBOD to construct roads in cocoa growing areas in the country.

Records from COCOBOD show that Bernard Antwi-Boasiako popularly known as "Chairman Wontumi" got the contract through his company; Hallmark Civil Engineering (HCE).

It is unclear if Hallmark Civil Engineering (HCE), has registration number CS040052018 and has civil and road construction as the nature of its business, went through a competitive bidding process to land the job.

But the amount has been described as very outrageous because the roads to be constructed are not asphalt roads but bitumen roads which are less expensive.

Players in the road construction business have described the deal as a total rip-off of the taxpayer by politicians.

They were of the view that if the contract was genuinely awarded, it should not have gone beyond US$10million. Interestingly information available to The Herald is that aside from Hallmark Civil Engineering, "Chairman Wontumi" uses two other companies to cream government contracts from the COCOBOD.

His companies are promptly paid by the management of the board led by Joseph Boahen Aidoo.

It is not clear how many other NPP regional chairmen are getting such jobs from the Akufo-Addo government.

Per the COCOBOD document, the contract was awarded about three weeks ago; specifically on November 12, 2020.

On the Hallmark Civil Engineering, additional documents from the Registrar General's Department strangely shows that the company was only registered in February 2018 and might not have executed a project of this nature, hence has no track record.

Mr Boasiako, according to the document, is the Managing Director(MD) of Hallmark Civil Engineering. The loud-mouth politician is expected to rehabilitate, upgrade, reconstruct in the areas listed in the contract.

The government said the contract must be executed in 24 months 'time. Hallmark Civil Engineering will be expected to complete the construction of the Dadieso-Akontombra road (km. 4.00-26. 30) Awaso- Asawnso (Babiani Jn) inthe Western North Region.

The contract document addressed to Mr Boasiako read "We arepleased to inform you that Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has approved the awardof contract for the construction Dadieso-Akontombra road (km. 4.00-26. 30)Awaso- Asawnso (Babiani Jn) in the Western North Region to your company".

It went on to specify the terms and condition of the contract saying "You are required to sign a contract agreement upon submission of a Performance Bond Security for Ten percent (10%) of the contract price issued by a reputable Bank or Thirty percent (30%) of the contract price issued by a reputable insurance company registered with National Insurance Commission and acceptable by to COCOBOD.

Failure to submit the performance security within Twenty-One (21)days from the date of the letter shall constitute sufficient grounds for the annulment of the award of contract".

Directors for Hallmark Civil Engineering are BernardAntwi-Boasiako and Doris Quainoo with their Tax Identification Number given asP0000792810 and P0007705735 respectively.

The company's secretary details were given as Constance Wiafe TINas P0001150243 while auditor is Eddie Nikoi who is into Accounting ConsultancyC0002435365.

Akufo-Addo running Ghana on autopilot - Martin Amidu

Former Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu has thrown heavy jabs back at the Akufo-Addo presidency for its ‘lazy falsehoods’ in the President’s letter responding to his resignation from office as Special Prosecutor following his disagreement with the presidency over the risk of corruption assessment of the Agyapa gold royalties transactions.

In a blistering assault on the President and his secretary, Mr. Amidu described the presidency as lazy and failing to read and understand the full 64-page report he issued on the Agyapa royalties transactions; a situation that should have led them to respond appropriately.

In his reaction, Mr. Amidu stated: “The President's response creates the embarrassing impression that neither the President who directed and instructed you to write the letter under reference nor you as his Secretary have read the full sixty-four (64) page Agyapa report to be able to understand that it contains very serious suspected corruption and corruption-related offences for which I intended to open full investigations. If the President and you had found the time to read the full Agyapa Royalties Transaction anti-corruption assessment report you would not have relied on the conclusions and observations like lazy lawyers relying on facts and holding in a published law report in making false and frivolous character assassination attacks on my integrity for cheap political point-scoring. I shudder to think of the impression being created to the domestic and international community that this dear country of ours, Ghana, is now being run on autopilot.”

This latest episode appears to unearth a lot of issues being harboured in the heart of Mr. Amidu that will lead to more explosive altercations in the very near future because the president’s reaction to his resignation is obviously unwarranted and unpalatable to him. He is also livid that the President sought to blame unrelated issues on him as his stated reasons for his quitting office.

Concerning the ‘false claim’ of non-payment of salaries, the former SP remarked: “The President's directives that create the impression that I resigned because of non-payment of salaries is plainly false upon any reading of my resignation letter. The President's further directive that I could have paid the salary of my deputy and myself from any funds provided to my Office for compensation of employees is patently false because the appointment letters issued by the President to the two of us under your signature were addressed to each of us personally at our private addresses and copied to (i) the Vice President, (ii) the Chief of Staff, (ii) the Assist. Cont. & Acct-Gen Accounts, Castle, Osu, and (iv) the Chief Internal Auditor, Castle, Osu. The Office of the Special Prosecutor was never copied or instructed to pay the compensation of the Special Prosecutor and the Deputy Special Prosecutor and had no authority to do so in terms of the appointment letters under your signature."

The strongly-worded response from Amidu could best be described as one questioning the legal aptitude of the President who is touted as an astute lawyer. In his view, the President and the people around him exhibited the character of lazy lawyers who dread reading full law reports and, therefore, rely on facts and holdings to make their case without taking the trouble to read the full report to understand the reasoning that forms the basis of the holdings.

He also accused the President of fraudulently rubber-stamping voluminous documents sent to him within just 24 hours because he was already briefed of the frog in there for the mother serpent to swallow.

NPP Bono Regional Chairman involved in car crash

The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe and his entourage have been involved in a car crash on the Berekum-Drobo stretch.

Kwame Baffoe and his team were returning to Sunyani from a campaign in the Jaman South constituency when the incident occurred.

There were no casualties. The injured have been sent to the Holy Family Hospital at Berekum.

The Bono Regional NPP Communications Director, Seth Asare Bediako confirmed the incident to secretbloggh  “We had a campaign at Jaman South. And on our way coming to Sunyani, just after Jinjini, a strange car just came to join our convoy. So he overtook my car and joined the convoy. Strangely, there was a speed ramp on the road. It seems he wasn’t familiar with the roads, so he hit one of our cars, the second Vice Chairman’s car. And it veered off the road, somersaulted and then went into a ditch. By grace, they had some minor injuries. We’ve sent them to the Holy Family hospital in Brekum, and they are responding to treatment,” he said.

Asare Bediako also added that the NPP Regional Chairman’s car was also hit.
